The Car Guy’s Wife is a lifestyle blog for the WAGs (Wives And Girlfriends) of the car guy. The Car Guy’s Wife is the site for survival guides and emotional support for understanding the automotive world.
Hey there, my name is Michelle Maraj and I am the founder of The Car Guy’s Wife. This is my place to share tips for attending motorsport events, travel guides for automotive adventures, and resources for learning more about the car world.
My introduction to cars came at a young age… the first car guy that I loved was my dad! For as long as I can remember, we have been an automotive family. My mom’s first car was a Camaro. All of my uncles had Corvettes that they were obsessed with. My dad always watched car shows at home.
Around Kindergarten, I became obsessed with the only car that I could actually identify – the Volkswagen Beetle. Every other car looked the same to me, but I would always get so excited when I saw a bug on the road. The Beetle was my dream car. I loved them so much, my dad ended up being a beetle for me as my first car at the age of 12.
The idea was, we were supposed to restore the 1965 bug before I turned 16. At 12, I got to drive a manual for the first time – and it went terribly. I ended the first day of driving in tears, and honestly didn’t try to drive again until I got my permit at 15.
We also never finished the restore… ten years later, ad my ’65 bug is still in my parent’s garage, currently without any doors. While we weren’t able to restore the car in time, at 16 my wonderful parents bought me another cute car: a Smart car!
My rainbow-colored car, Smartie, was the coolest car a 16 year old could drive. My mom even had her own Smart car too. My parents spoiled me with the custom paint job that I had picked out, making my car one of a kind. Throughout high school, I started taking my modified car to car shows in order to show it off.
I’d say I have always been surrounded by people who have been passionate about cars. It was in high school that I met this guy named Ravi. He started coming to the local car shows with me, and a few months later we started dating.
Through college, my boyfriend’s involvement in the automotive world had grown. He went through two cars, started attending car meets, began tracking his car, and even started a car club on campus. I never felt a need to race, but I frequently tagged along with my rainbow colored car.
After college and a year at my first job, I finally pulled the trigger and invested in my DREAM CAR! I got my very own working VW Beetle.
And that’s where we are today. I have my beetle, Daisy, who I love more than anything. Oh, and I married that car guy.
